I hit a 503 error when trying to read a post in the "Challenges" section, and again when trying to access the original post about the 503 error in Ben's Boardroom.

Just letting you know.

Thanks!   I have not gotten any errors in the last day or two but we had power outages last Monday and Wednesday that short circuited Spectrum so I was getting error messages then.   We will check with our service provider.

Appreciate the heads up @Pat D in PA

A 503 error indicates the server is temporarily unable to handle a request, usually due to planned maintenance, temporary server overload, or resource limits being hit. Unlike permanent errors, a 503 error is temporary, and you may be able to resolve it by simply retrying the action or reloading the page later.

Since it's a resource issue, maybe you can lock this thread and start a new one:

I am on another forum that uses this forum software and they had a thread that got pretty long and started to cause problems, so they just started a new one.

Thanks, Ellen.  Will do.

Also ...  My PC is old and will not be able to handle Windows 11.  I now have an iMac but the PC is still on my desk.  I've notice that when I get a 503 message on my PC, I don't on my Mac.   I thought it was just because my PC is old, but I also am not good about clearing my cache on the PC.  So folks can do that too to save on resources.

I keep getting those errors and trying again doesn't seem to work.

Giving it some time does help. Usually it could clear within a few minutes. But I have had it take longer.

Ack! I just got a 503 error in the Library trying to post a comment on one of the poker stories. I was worried that I lost the comment completely but it came back after about 5 minutes and I was able to post my comment.

Just wanted to let everyone know that it happened in the library as well. I think it's going to take a lot of patience to get through these stories and comments this coming week.

I sometimes get the 503 Error message, but I just refresh my browser page and it's totally fine.

Yes, I've had it happen at least twenty times today... sometimes refreshing helps, sometimes it doesn't.

Spectrum where I live has been an ongoing issue for years but especially bad in 2025. I often loose wifi  and can't log on to any site in the mornings and it goes out sporadically throughout the day.

As for 503...refreshing works for me.  We found the "what ep did you watch today" thread was at 77 pages! That takes a tremendous amount of resources to load and we try to keep threads under 25 pages for that reason.  I locked thread #3 last night and started a new thread #4 which should help.  I'm still looking through threads/forums to find if there are any energy hogs lurking.   If you spot any, let me or Deanne know.

In the meantime, 503 has become a good friend, can't be scared away.

It appears on almost every pages of the forum more or less.

Sometimes I can just click back, sometimes nothing moves, or I am even thrown out and I'm forced to wait. No connection.

@Cheaux in case of long threads I noticed

A - Z # 38  >   25 pages long

Last Letter # 40  > 30 pages long

That will help you?

@Cheaux I just saw the current Read and Reviewed thread (Jan-Mar 2022!!) is at 47 pages.

FYI ... I found a thread from Deanne in 2020 where we faced this same issue.  She said:

For those who play the various games in the Casino ( A-Z, Boggle, and Last Letter ) do you see any need to retain the games once they've been played?  There are currently 15 pages with 25 threads, totaling ~375 games.

We'd like your feedback.  Do you think it would be okay to delete the finished game threads?  We can keep a few of the finished games for new members to see how we play the games and transition to a new thread; maybe keep the previous two or three sets?

For those who might be concerned about their post counts when the threads are deleted, we performed a trial test and the participants' post counts did not decrease with the deletions.

And the folks then said delete as you'd keep playing the games and filling up new pages!  As many of you are those same folks ... we'll go ahead with the deletions

Thanks to everyone for letting me know .... I'm on it (for now at least)

@CareBear  I saw that one too. Thanks to both of you for jumping on it.

I've deleted all game threads prior to 2023.  The site seemed to me to be more responsive and move faster when I was done. Or maybe it's wishful thinking. :whistling:

As you find more, let me know and THANK  YOU! for your assistance.

I have noticed that it drags when waiting for a screen change. Hoping this will help speed things up.

I enjoy doing the jigsaw puzzles and have noticed that, now, there are only 19 pages. There used to be 40+ pages. What happened to the rest of the pages?

Also, I get error 503 when I finish a puzzle and go back to the list of puzzles. I have the link saved in my note pad, so I can edit the page I'm on, click the link, and be taken to that particular page.

Some of the more recent puzzles were moved to the Cellar sub forum in the Casino until I realized that was moving the problem and not solving it.  I then deleted old puzzles that hadn't been viewed since 2020.

I've noticed a faster response since deleting unused pages.

I couldn't get into the site at all this morning.  I had a quick link which used to bring me straight here but all I could get was the 503.  Had to Google 'Bonanza Brand' and get in that way, then saved that as my new quick link and now it seems to be fine.

..... grrrrrrrrrrrrr, spoke too soon, as soon as I hit the 'View New Content' I got it again!

Yup, worst it's ever been this a.m.  I wanted to see just how long it would take me to get in, and I started trying to access the library at 11:49 (still haven't been able to, kept receiving the 503 error).

I started at the same time to try to access the forums, and just got in here at 11:56 after numerous tries (just for giggles and grins I decided to be like a typical entitled loony, clicking refresh over and over LMAO!).

At one point I thought the increased 503s might coincide with heavy traffic times, but this is a global site, and not everyone is on the east coast of the US like me, all enjoying lunch time... <grin!>

Yeah, it's a bugger today. Appreciate all your hard work keeping things running @Cheaux. We know it's not you!
