When John Ritter died unexpectedly, they were already filming episodes of the next season of 8 Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter.  His character was killed off and the rest of the season dealt with his death.

My point was more that I can't imagine screen legend Cesar Romero, having been a film star for decades at that point, having to audition for a part in anything.

Can you by chance point me to your source for this original title of the episode? Have consulted Leiby & Leiby; Greenland; and Shapiro but see no mention of it. It would be highly unusual in this period for one intellectual property to incorporate something distinct from another IP into a title for a script. Then again, the only Escape from Arkham I know is from the 2010s but Batman is nowhere near my natural milieu 😆So perhaps I am missing the mark entirely. In any case, would love to know the source of that original title! That stuff always fascinates me.

Sorry, I was being facetious. Arguably, Caesar Romero's most famous role was as The Joker in Batman. The name of the insane asylum in Gotham City is Arkham Asylum.

For someone of my generation (I assume I'm significantly older than you are), his more than 200 film and television appearances, not to mention stage credits, speaks volumes for his talent. For my generation we'll all remember his incredibly strong contribution to the original 1960 "Ocean's Eleven" with Sinatra. Doc Holliday in 1939's "Frontier Marshall". As Cortes in 1947's "Captain from Castille" holding his own against Tyrone Power. Was profoundly politically active.

And all this from someone so proud of his heritage he refused to change his name to something more 'palatable' to the masses.

The first time I remember seeing Cesar Romero was as A.J. Arnold in The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes with Kurt Russell and Joe Flynn. I was about six at the time. Another favoriteCesar Romero role was as The Thin Man's ex-wife gigolo husband in the first Thin Man movie. P.S. I was born two weeks before the Kennedy assassination.

A Woman Lost or A Stagecoach Named Desire: Ruta Lee played Julia Marlowe in A Woman Lost. Is she a Virginia City version of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire? Julia's husband and children died in a fire. I don't believe we know what started the fire, but could Julia have had a drinking problem before her husband and children's deaths? Blanche taunted her young husband for being gay. Shortly thereafter, he shot himself. Julia keeps hearing "Oh Dear, What Can the Matter Be?" in her head. The Varsouvienna plays continuously in Blanche's head.
