Did They Own A Piano?

I have been watching episodes like Six Black Horses and The Ballerina where they have guests playing the piano for entertainment. So did they have a piano on the side of the wall which they never showed? I know there is no definite answer, but it is cool to think that there is a piano set up near the staircase.

The house has all these secret rooms that the viewer never sees. So they probably had a music room hidden behind the stairs.

They would roll the piano out whenever they needed some entertainment. I'm just making an observation.

:rotfl One of the odd things I noticed when watching The Ballerina was the sudden appearance of a piano.

They don't have one for the parties, just a three piece band, so where did it come from? Or go to? Maybe they

keep it in the downstairs "bedroom that sometimes isn't there." It's like saving stuff on internet sites instead of

your PC. Out of sight but available when you want it. :rotfl

Just watched The Ballerina and couldn't help but wonder, in the saloon, when the bloke ceases to play the violin, the music plays on for her to dance to anyway. That's a piano. Obviously Virginia City specialised in magic pianos.

I love this simile.

There is a replica of the Ponderosa ranch house built in 1:6 scale showing all the rooms on both floors.

I was amazed at all the rooms downstairs and upstairs.

By this artist's model, they could pack some guests in these rooms.

In my Bonanza world they have a piano at the wall and next to the stairs, right side, is an other floor to Ben's big office.

That's where I put it in Be Still, My Soul and The Love of His Life--against the wall in the space between the landing and Ben's office. (Ben wanted to buy a grand piano, but Adam convinced him they didn't have the room for it.)

I imagined there was a music room under the stairs. They needed a place to store the piano.

Believe me those old pianos weighed a ton.

The boys got a good workout moving it for special occasions.

I think they owned one (perhaps originally belonging to Marie?). But since none of the four men played it didn't make sense to have it taking up space in the great room, so they kept it in some back room most of the time and only brought it out when it was needed.

Do you mean Adam couldn't play the piano? Plays the guitar, speaks Latin, Spanish, french and who knows what other language; is an expert in architecture, structural and mechanincal engineering, literature and mathematics. But he can't play the piano? Shame on you, Adam! What have you been doing with your time?

Trying to visualize this. When you say "the space between the landing and Ben's office", are you talking about the wall that is perpendicular to the wall with the stairs?

If you're sitting at Ben's desk looking straight ahead toward the stairs, the piano is against the wall on your right, appropriately spaced between the landing and the office area.

But he could! He's perfect, don't you remember? He just didn't want to brag about it, so he acted as if he couldn't.

I'll try to find this site, but I do have some pics of both floors...will send them If I can. I want to built a replica of the Ponderosa, but in 1:12 scale.

This is a good interpretation of the house.

Oh, my gosh, that would be amazing if you could do that!!

I just started another thread about a similar project I'm going to attempt. My hubby is a building contractor, so we have some housebuilding software that enables him to show a finished product to potential clients. It lets you build a 3D house from a regular floorplan. You can turn the building whatever direction you want, look through windows, stand anywhere in any room.

I'd be happy to share it with you once it is finished if you think it might help you to build the replica.

It's funny how we all have our personal vision of what goes on to the right of those stairs. And has anyone ever noticed that the space to the right of the stairs shrinks and grows depending on the episode? In some eps, there is no space at all--the landing is fitted tight into a corner, with the wall to the right right up against it.

In "my" Ponderosa house, if you walk to the right of the stairs and look underneath the landing, you will find the door to Hop Sing's bedroom. :D
